From the humble giant – the Wooden Articular Church in Svätý Kríž, we headed straight to Dúbravská Valley in Liptov.
This time, we were looking for Grút – a giant forest guardian hidden among the trees.
And “looking for” is actually a pretty accurate description of what followed.
The journey through Dúbravská Valley is worth it in itself.
Beautiful countryside, forests all around you and an asphalt road that genuinely made us stare in disbelief.
Excellent.
The kind of road you don’t always find even in towns.
So there you are, happily making your way through the valley. And since you’re heading towards a local attraction, you naturally expect a sign to appear somewhere.

Or at least a little arrow... Something... We found nothing.
And Grút certainly isn’t exactly tiny. You’d think a forest giant would be rather difficult to miss. The problem is that he’s very well hidden among the trees.
So if you decide to go looking for him, be prepared for the final part of your trip to turn into a bit of a treasure hunt.
Actually... Maybe that’s intentional. Perhaps that’s exactly how it should be when you’re searching for a forest guardian.
When we finally found him, it was worth the search.
Grút is majestic.
A giant figure standing in the middle of the forest, created in such a way that among the trees, he almost feels like a creature that had been there long before you arrived – quietly watching you.
A kind of forest Transformer.
In my head, I immediately gave him a new name:
Optimus Grút.
And when you stand beside him, you understand why he was worth looking for.
He’s exactly the kind of destination that doesn’t require planning a big mountain hike. You simply walk through a beautiful valley, spend some time in the forest, and at the end of it all, you find something you probably never expected to see there.
That was exactly our plan. Since we were already in Dúbravská Valley, we thought we’d combine our walk to Grút with a visit to the Mining Museum in the area.
It sounded like a great plan. There was just one tiny problem. We came on a weekday. It wasn’t until we arrived that we discovered the museum was closed.
So our first tip is simple: If you’d like to visit both Grút and the Mining Museum in one trip, check the museum’s current opening days and hours before you set off. I didn’t. Which gives you the rare opportunity to learn from someone else’s mistake – mine. Ha!
Even so, we still considered this part of our day a success. Grút and the walk through the valley were more than enough to make the trip worthwhile. We’ll simply save the museum for another time. At least now we have a reason to come back.
We’re sharing our experience here because it’s often these little practical details that can make a trip much easier. The car park we found near the museum – where we wanted to leave the car – was behind a barrier with a traffic sign restricting access.
So we stood there for a moment wondering what to do. In the end, we took the risk. With our usual optimism: "If they lock us in, I suppose we’ll just sleep in the car.” They didn’t.
But please note: this is definitely not us telling you to do the same. We’re simply telling you honestly how our trip went. Barrier included.
For us, absolutely! Even if, like us, you happen to come on a day when you can’t visit the Mining Museum. Dúbravská Valley is a lovely place for a walk, and our Optimus Grút gives you exactly the kind of little destination that makes the trip worthwhile. Although, in this case, the destination itself is rather large...
We didn’t come here to conquer a mountain summit. We didn’t need to achieve anything.
We simply wanted to walk through a beautiful valley and find a giant forest guardian hidden among the trees. And in doing so, we discovered another little corner of Liptov that we can now share with you.
That’s exactly why we created Objav Liptov.
Because you don’t always have to visit the most famous places around. Sometimes, all you need to do is turn into a valley, walk into the forest and meet...
a Transformer.
